When I was younger, my dad always told to write a journal. He also told me to eat green veg. Nowadays, everyone’s writing blogs and eating avocados. The man is ahead of his time!
However, I never did take his advice on the journal idea. I was always too embarrassed to share my thoughts even if it was for my eyes only. Plus, what was there to write about? My life involved going to school and playing in the park. It wasn’t exactly the Mac Life.
Nonetheless, that was not the point. It wasn’t for the benefit of others. It was for me and my future self. To look back on great memories I may have forgotten or great challenges I overcame that I could seek inspiration from at a later date. A journal is also a great way to gain control of your emotions and to improve metal health.
Famous author and creator of Morning Pages, Julia Cameron stated “Once we get those muddy, maddening, confusing thoughts on the page, we face our day with clearer eyes.”
Fast forward 20 odd years and not much has changed in that time. I now go to work and run in the park instead of school and play. But I’ve decided to start a blog – better late than never. I guess my dad’s advice has always stuck with me. Plus, I’m on my phone and laptop so much anyway that I may as well do something productive online!
So, I have decided to put some positivity out on the internet. There is so much negativity online that it’s worth my effort to contribute something positive online. You never know who your output (good or bad) can reach through the power of technology.
It’s like what Pete Docter said when receiving an Oscar for the film Inside Out: “Make films, draw, write… it’ll make a world of difference.”
They don’t hand out Oscars for blogs and I’m not expecting to change the world. But if I make one person happy then I am making a difference even if that person is myself…. or my dad.
“Make films, draw, write… it’ll make a world of difference.”
