New Year, New Mind

So, it’s a new year. How do you feel?

Motivated or more of the same?

New Year signals a new start. However, it is down to us to make that change. When the clock strikes midnight, it often feels underwhelming. This may be because we are hoping something magical will strike within us and we will be automatically reinvigorated. However, we are still the same person with the same mind as we were the previous day.

We are the same person before and after the bells. The clock doesn’t change us. We have to change ourselves. There’s an old saying: change your mind, change your life. I do believe this to be true. But how do we bring about a change in our mindset?

A change in attitude is unlike a light switch. It’s not instantaneous, rather it takes time and effort to bring about results. Furthermore, I believe it is done through a change of behaviour and habits. However, in order to fix something, we must first understand what’s wrong. Therefore, it is important to dissect our daily routines and make a change for the best.  So, what is holding you back exactly?  Are you on your phone too much? Drinking too much. Eating too much of the wrong foods.

And what are you not getting enough of? Exercise, greens, reading, and prayers?

One thing we can’t change is time. We only have 24 hours in the day and there is no way of getting any more. Therefore, we must make the time. Swap an hour watching tv for exercise. Make a home cooked meal instead of a takeaway.

These changes won’t turn us into fitness gurus overnight but it will bring about a change in mood. Making these small manageable changes regularly can bring about a change in moods, thus overtime can bring about bigger and better life changes.

We just need patience, desire, and a little bit of mental toughness. A new year doesn’t provide these qualities; they are already within you.
